Life Story for Thomas Evans

Thomas Edwin Evans, 74, of Macungie, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on March 10, 2019.
Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Alice Evans and Clarence Evans. Tom was the loving husband of Carol Starrett Evans, to whom he was married for 50 years. Together they raised two sons.
Tom was a graduate of Weatherly High School and a veteran of the Navy, serving as an airman at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville as well as the Azores, and as a naval plane captain on the USS Forrestal. After his time in the Navy, Tom worked as a foreman for All-Steel for 35 years and, along with his wife, owned and operated two locations of their “Evans Dough Box” restaurants.
A kind man with a mischievous sense of humor, Tom was a devoted family man who took pride in his family’s accomplishments and never missed one of his children’s or grandchildren’s sporting events or concerts. His favorite moments in life were spent on family vacations with the ones he loved.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed boating with his family, fishing with his son in upstate New York, and taking long motorcycle trips with his wife.
Tom was a creator. Whether he was making furniture and crafts with his wood-working skills, or later in life, making hand-made quilts to commemorate the major milestones in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives, he was always involved in a creative pursuit.
He was an active member of the communities he was a part of, coaching youth basketball, volunteering with the Conyngham Valley Civic Organization, and serving on the consistory of the Dorrance United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife: Carol Starrett Evans; his sons: William Evans and his wife Tami Evans of Wapwallopen, and Brian Evans and his wife Shani Evans of Lititz; five grandchildren: Tyler Evans, Zach Evans, Noah Evans, Jacob Evans, and Emerson Evans.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. Matthew’s EC Church, 5th and Ridge Streets, Emmaus; starting with visitation at 10:00am with a memorial service at 11:00am, followed directly by a light luncheon.
Condolences may be forwarded to Allentown Cremation Services, 3438 Route 309, Orefield, PA 18069.
