Obituary for John O'Grady

John “Jack” O’Grady, 86, treasured husband and father, died Monday, March 27, 2023, in Easton, PA surrounded by his loving family.
Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betsy (née Hickey) of Hackettstown, NJ and his two children, Brian (wife Jana) of Newtown, PA and Chris (wife Shannon) of Northampton, PA; as well as his two grandchildren: Riggins and Teagan O’Grady.
Born in Framingham, MA, to parents Thomas and Anna O’Grady, Jack was the youngest of three brothers, Thomas and Gerald (predeceased).
Jack and his family resided in Berkeley Heights, NJ from 1970 through 2018 before moving to Hackettstown, NJ.
Jack attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine where he graduated in 1959 with a degree in economics and was captain of the basketball team.
Upon graduation, Jack served four years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, stationed on the USS Hammerberg destroyer.
Jack had many successes professionally, most notably working in sales and marketing for Fieldcrest Cannon/Pillowtex and as a consultant for Fine Art Limited. He was instrumental in the execution of company Olympic licensing agreements for the 1996 Atlanta and 2002 Salt Lake City Games.
Family was everything to Jack. He cherished vacations that included summers at Long Beach Island, ski trips across the country, and trips to national parks.
Jack’s philosophy was, “the more the merrier”. He happily hosted guests at his lovely home and cherished the role of ‘Grillmaster’, introducing friends and family to culinary delights (including Tuscan steak), and showing off his bocce skills.
Married since 1966, Jack and Betsy enjoyed their many adventures together, whether it be international travel or simple local pleasures.
Jack was a wise and gentle man, a patient teacher and a loyal friend. He cared deeply for his family and his love will remain a great and lasting gift in our lives.
A celebration for Jack will be announced at a later date.
